Until the last year, the job scenario for the white-collared ones was booming. Many students had an Entry Level jobs in hand, even before they were graduated. He had lot of options to pick the employer or industry depending on several factors like salary, the perks offered to them, there growth potential, sort of training offered by the company to them, whether or not they acquire any offsite openings and most importantly the on the whole, job safety that their job will offer them.
Similar was the condition of the experienced hands. If you were not contented with your present work conditions or with your manager, all you needed to do was forward your CV to few other consultants and you would get yourself another new job. Most companies were in the revamping mode and they needed many people to work for them. Attrition levels were on higher levels and almost all secured jobs for themselves. No one had to remain unemployed for longer time.
However, looking at the US recession scenario situations doesn’t seem to be the same any longer. Almost all the companies are talking regarding cost cutting and making each and every penny go much a longer way. Therefore, the best way was to cut down the staff and just keep enough people to do the work and with great knowledge. Therefore, there were no bulwark employees waiting in wings or no one on the bench any more. Although the ITES and BPO services still require people but many of them are just the entry-level jobs. Therefore, if you are experienced then there is not much on offer.
Few of the IT firms that even issued the joining letters to the candidates have deferred from them. People have been asked to wait until any further intimation is given to them, as the firms do not have any new projects. Their current staff can easily manage the projects that they have.
